How to style the perfect simple festival and gig look

Okay, so if you haven't already guessed it by the post title, today, I am going try and impart what little knowledge I have onto you guys by sharing a few tips I try to stick to when I want to achieve a simple festival or gig look.

  • Firstly, think simple. Comfort is key, you are going to be stood for a long time and that is why I always opt for soft denim or my favourite worn jeans/shorts. If your wanting something a little grungy and want to be down with the cool kids (yeap, I just lost all hope of ever sitting at the cool table) go for ripped denim jeans or frayed shorts they always seem to feel a little more relaxed.
  • Vintage oversized Tee's are your best friend they are simple and just look effortlessly cool. There's a reason off duty models live in them. Short on the vintage tee front? Think oversized tee roughly tucked in.
  • Opting for an all black look? Add a belt. Now I'm not talking cowboy's or 00's Britney Spears. Take mine for example, you notice it, but it shouldn't be the main focal point of your outfit it just breaks it up a little.
  • Footwear can make or break a festival or gig. Think I am over-reacting? Try trudging through a muddy field in the wrong shoes. Shoes are always a good way to incorporate a trend into a look, but again, don't be a fool if its raining make like Kate Moss and stick the wellies on.
  • Try not to end up looking like a drag queen dressed as a bird. Yes, I love glitter in my hair and on my face/body as much as any other 27 year old trying to re-live the 'school disco dancing to spice girl' glory days. But if your going for a simple look, maybe best to avoid the can of glitter spray.
  • Make sure you still like your outfit with your hair tied up. I know this might sound like madness especially if you have just spent hours perfecting your beachy waves but unfortunately at festivals, guys and some girls, like to pee into their cups and throw it into the crowd and although urine might be the next salts spray probs best take a bobble and let someone else discover that trend.
If all else fails, no one is going to sit and stare at you. Everyone is either too busy watching their favourite band or dodging pee missiles that fly through the air like smelly fireworks. Ahh the poetry.
